HOW THE WATER INLET VALVE WORKS

The IMV-708 is a solenoid-actuated dual water valve. House water (20–120 PSI) enters the inlet and is held back by a spring-loaded diaphragm. When the refrigerator's icemaker or dispenser control board energizes one of the valve's 120V AC coils, the solenoid lifts the diaphragm and allows roughly 130 cc of water through in 7.5 seconds — precisely metered for ice-cube fill or dispenser pour.

Each outlet has an independent coil, so the icemaker and dispenser operate without cross-feed. A pre-installed inlet screen and flow washer regulate flow and protect against debris.

Failure modes: open coil (no water at all), weakened solenoid (slow fill, partial ice cubes), clogged inlet screen (zero or trickling flow), or stuck diaphragm (continuous leak). Replacing the valve with a genuine Robertshaw IMV-708 restores factory-spec operation.
