HOW THE LINE VOLTAGE GAS VALVE WORKS

A line voltage combination gas valve is the central safety and control device for gas-fired heating equipment. It combines a manual gas cock (Off/Pilot/On), automatic pilot safety, and a 120V solenoid-actuated main valve in a single body.

When the thermostat calls for heat, 120V mains power energizes the main valve solenoid — opening gas flow to the burner. When the call ends or the pilot light goes out, the safety circuit drops out and the slotted safety magnet shuts off gas. This is the factory-grade safety design every furnace, boiler, and commercial water heater inspector signs off on.

Over time, the safety magnet weakens, the diaphragm hardens, or the gas cock binds. The Robertshaw 700-453 (7000BE-120) restores full functionality with factory-grade internals, RoHS-compliant build, and the same -40°F to 175°F ambient rating Honeywell V400A and White-Rodgers 36C03A use in their equivalent valves.
