[About the F-14B Tomcat VF-143 "Pukin Dogs"] The F-14A Tomcat entered service in September 1974. In the 1990s, the F-14B was introduced, equipped with the more powerful F110-GE-400 engine and updated fire control systems. The external distinguishing feature is the change in the shape of the engine nozzle.
The F-14B was primarily deployed to carrier air wings in the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions. The 143rd Fighter Squadron (VF-143) is a squadron characterized by a large-winged leopard painted on its vertical tail. Although its nickname, "Pukkin Dogs," is a vulgar expression, it is now the official unit name of VFA-143, which has inherited this marking and is now a fighter attack squadron.
