Emerald is a highly valued, vibrant green to bluish-green gemstone variety of the mineral beryl, colored by trace amounts of chromium or vanadium. It is known for having significant internal inclusions (called "jardin" or garden in Frech) and a hardness of 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale. These internal features, or inclusions, are an intrinsic part of the gemstone’s identity, setting emeralds apart from other precious stones. Jardin refers to the network of inclusions within an emerald, resembling the intricate patterns of a garden. These inclusions, which can include fractures, trapped minerals, or fluid-filled cavities, are considered part of an emerald’s natural charm.
