Antique wax over composition head doll. Approx 12 inches tall.
A lovely old girl from the 1830s/1840s, looking very regal dressed as a young Queen Victoria in "Ermin" trimmed red velvet cloak and red velvet crown with large pearls.
She is an English wax over composition shoulder plate head doll with a wig cap - not a slit head - and the remains of brown hair. She has black pupil less glass eyes. The wax on the face and shoulder plate has crazing and is quite dark brown. Her body is stuffed fabric, her lower arms are leather with separately stitched fingers and thumbs.
Her costume must have looked magnificent when new, now sadly it is very fragile with the silk lining of her cloak and the fur collar crumbling away. The printed cotton layer of her dress has all but gone from the front, you can see what is left at the back..
Please study the photos they give a good idea of condition. she has sewn on bootees.
The doll is in remarkably good condition its the clothing that is very fragile. With all her faults she is a sweet survivor.
