A rare and highly collectable 1982 People’s Republic of China Year of the Dog (Renxu Year) twin proof coin set, issued by the China Mint Company for the People’s Bank of China. One of the earliest and most desirable issues in China’s lunar commemorative coin series, with a strictly limited mintage of just 5,000 sets worldwide.
The set comprises two proof coins displayed in original capsules. The gold 200 Yuan proof coin is struck in 91.6% gold, total weight 8 grams containing 7.33 grams of pure gold, diameter 23mm, bearing on the obverse a finely detailed depiction of a dog — after the brushwork of celebrated Chinese artist Liu Jiyou — with the Chinese characters 壬戌 (Renxu) to the left and the artist’s seal to the right, denomination 200元 below. The reverse depicts the Temple of Heaven (天坛), Beijing, inscribed 北京 and dated 1982. The larger silver 20 Yuan proof coin carries the same dog and Temple of Heaven designs, denomination 20元, with the same Renxu inscription and artist’s seal.
Both coins display full proof surfaces with deeply mirrored fields and frosted relief. Presented in the original blue and red velvet presentation case with colour artwork insert depicting the dog design, accompanied by the original bilingual certificate of authenticity signed by Yang Bingchao, General Manager, China Mint Company, People’s Bank of China, Beijing, 1982.
