You are bidding on ONE (1) clean, solid, natural Alaskan gold nugget. Each & every nugget is unique & rare - there are no two alike!

This raw gold was placer mined & came from the Valdez Mining District of interior Alaska. Alaskan placer nuggets are generally 84% to 92% purity, or 20K to 22K. Great for jewelry making, novelty or investment. Alaska State quarter in photo is for size reference only.

Gold Weight:

Compare the weight in grams or troy ounces of the gold to the current spot price of gold. (There are 31.1 grams per troy ounce.) Gold nuggets are valued differently than raw melted gold, due to its rarity in nugget form. Remember, gold weight is most often listed in troy and metric values. The weight of gold can be measured in troy ounces, grams, or penny weight. See chart below:

1 oz. (troy) = 31.10g (31.1 grams)

1 oz. (troy) = 20 dwt(20 pennyweight)

1.55 grams = 1 dwt (1pennyweight)

1.0 grams =15.43 gr (15.43 grains)

Be sure you know the difference between a gram and a grain! Some sellers will intentionally mislead you by listing the weights incorrectly with common abbreviations ("g" is for grams and "gr" is for grains). If you see a 10gr nugget selling for $480.00 on eBay, watch out - it should be more like $31.00! 10 GRAINS is equal to just 0.479 GRAMS. Remember it takes 15.43 grains (gr) to make just one gram (g) of gold. And there are 31.1 grams to one troy ounce (ozt). A grain is the smallest unit of measurement of gold. eBay now prohibits the use of the word "GRAIN" in the title description line.

Determining Fair Value:

When evaluating natural gold, consider several factors - Weight, Character, and Color! For an average quality nugget, weight and color are your best bets for determining value. Look for bright and shiny gold - if the gold is dark, it may contain a high amount of copper or other less minerals and metals. Pure gold looks just as you would expect. The value of gold is also based on the karat system, which is a 24 point scale, signifying the percentage of gold a piece of metal contains. So, if jewelry is 14KT, it is 14 out of 24 parts gold, or 58.33 percent gold. Nuggets are usually 20 to 22KT purity (or 84% to 92%). Gold is tested either with acid or electronically.

Size of Gold:

Gold size is measured in "mesh or screen" sizes. Because this is natural gold and not man made, it is very hard to predict how many pieces there are per gram or troy ounce. Every batch is unique. Some nuggets may be flat and light or rounded and very dense (heavy). The smaller the mesh number, the larger the piece of gold.

Payment

It is important to understand, that if you win an auction, you must be ready to pay for the item(s) you have acquired. Please avoid placing bids unless you are confident in your willingness to pay. Payment is due within two (2) days of winning an auction. If payment is not received by the end of the two-day period, an unpaid item case will be opened & the item will be relisted. I also keep track of bid retractions (eBay sends a notice) - if the same user cancels multiple bids, they will be added to my Bidder Block List.

Please check your state's tax laws as they vary; eBay adds taxes, if applicable, NOT the seller. Rules on bullion, nuggets, etc. are different with each state. Some states have a bullion exemption, but I am not versed on all 50 state's laws.

I use United States Postal Service (USPS) and I ship within 24 hours of payment received. I am now offering FREE Shipping!

If you request shipping upgrades, such as signature, PLEASE request it PRIOR to paying for your item. USPS shipping is generally smooth, although there may be delays during the busy Holiday season. Please note, according to eBay's policy, once the tracking status indicates "Delivered", eBay considers the item as delivered.

Regarding returns - the shipping cost will be the responsibility of the buyer.

Welcome to Miner's Daughter Gold! My name is Kaitlyn - the daughter within the Miner's Daughter name!

My dad was first introduced to gold mining in Alaska in the late 80's, early 90's.
