North Sea Texas (Dutch:
Noordzee, Texas) is a 2011 Belgian drama romance film directed by Bavo Defurne in his feature directorial debut, who co-wrote the script with Yves Verbraeken, based on André Sollie's Nooit gaat dit over. The film stars Jelle Florizoone, Mathias Vergels, and Eva Van Der Gucht. The film follows Pim (Florizoone) falling in love with his best friend, Gino (Vergels).
North Sea Texas (original title Noordzee, Texas) is a 2011 Belgian coming-of-age drama film about a shy, artistic teenager named Pim in a small Belgian coastal town. The film explores his blossoming sexuality, first love, and complicated relationships with his mother and his neighbour, Gino, while dealing with a repressive society. The story centers on Pim's secret infatuation with Gino and the arrival of a charismatic carnival worker named Zoltan, who stirs emotions for both Pim and his mother.
A teenage boy's search for love finds him fixated on a boy who lives nearby.
Pim, the emotionally abandoned and affection-starved young gay son of a small seaside town's resident floozy, grows up dreaming intensely of a loving father who will someday come for him, but never does. Frequently home alone, Pim often spends time at a neighbor's house where another single mom and her two teenage children accept him matter-of-factly. As Pim is about to turn 15, he and neighbor boy Gino become each other's friend-with-benefits, entering a period of sexual awakening together. Life, however, is all about change, and while Gino (a couple years older) is ready to move on and move out, Pim is not, leaving Pim behind to carry on with his continuing crush for Gino (while Gino's sister Sabrina develops an unrequited crush for Pim).
North Sea Texas is the feature film debut from cult director Bavo Defurne, whose short films, love letters to the male form and soaked with lush visuals, have garnered fans from across the globe - drawing comparisons to Pierre et Gilles, Herbert List, Dreyer and Eisenstein.
Pim lives in a small town on the Belgian coast, together with his single mother Yvette, a local accordion starlet. It s an ordinary existence which Pim brightens up by dreaming of princesses, beauty queens and handsome Gino, the boy next door. But when hunky traveller Zoltan blows through town, Pim's life takes an exciting and unexpected turn.
Officially selected as the Closing Night Gala at the 26th BFI Lesbian & Gay Film Festival winning great praise from critics and audiences alike.
