Massive Signed ca. 1902 Quezal Centerpiece with Brilliant Stretch Colors measuring 16" w x 6" tall overall. These were made for the New York mansion market following the Pan Am Expo in New York in 1901. (Newly formed) Quezal exhibited and took orders at the Fair, and this signature w/the diamond point inventory number is one of the earliest (ca. 1902) signatures found, consistent with the orders filled after their success at the Expo.. New York had a large number of skilled European bench metal workers, and a huge market for upscale fancy goods, and this was probably from glass ordered at the Expo., and fitted with a mount by a retailer selling to the decorators furnishing the Vanderbilt's & Astor's residences. The bowl is huge & thin, and this was really just for display. Would never have survived on its own, and the condition is PERFECT, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Even the bump in the bottom center of bowl shows no wear. Total eye candy, amazing peacock colors. Matching epergnes were over 2 feet tall, but they were badly damaged. Base is gilt over bronze, heavy & totally handmade. Base fitted with silk cord (shows expected wear) as shown to protect bowl. Bronze base is excellent & untouched patina with some wear to gilt. Art nouveau was an exciting, emerging market when this was produced, but there was still a huge appetite for more traditional tastes, such as this. A real FOCAL POINT, and a remarkable example of early Quezal production.
