This 1890's Serape was owned by Perferio Sanchez. It is a beautifully crafted piece made of very fine wool. Perferio was my wife, Diana's great grandfather from Magdalena, New Mexico. He was the postmaster and a rancher. With a central design of a jagged diamond, this handmade blanket reflects the rich cultural heritage of Mexican craftsmanship. Its provenance and ownership history add to its authenticity and value as a collectible item that represents the traditional Mexican culture of the era. This serape is a stunning example of artisanal work that showcases the unique style and craftsmanship of the time. Diana's Grandmother Aurora, gifted this piece to us 55 years ago. The trailing edges have been sewn under for two reasons. We used it as a large wall display. The tassel fringe edge is delicate and shows wear, and is missing in spots. There are typical thin spots due to age, and the fine nature of the wool used in production. Approximately 32x80.
