An antique Indian, wheeled horse temple toy. Cast in bronze by the lost wax method in the 19th c. A particularly finely detailed example with beautiful patination and traces of verdigris.

Temple toys like this typically graced Hindu temples during the 19th c., a trend that continued on into the 20th c. The patination on this old cast bronze example, suggests this belongs firmly in the former, the result of decades

of handling by curious little fingers in temple whilst their parents were otherwise engaged performing puja.

The main body of the horse and the saddle would have been cast separately using the lost-wax method before being attached together. The bronze wheels are attached to iron axles.

This artefact comes to us from an important British, single owner collection. Please look carefully at the photographs as they form part of the description.
