The 1988 Tooheys 1000 at Mount Panorama was won by Tony Longhurst and Tomas Mezera driving the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth for Benson & Hedges Racing. In a race dominated by the turbocharged Sierras, the yellow-liveried RS500 combined speed and reliability to secure victory, marking a turning point in the Group A era as turbo power firmly established its superiority over the traditional V8 field at Bathurst.
