Used 1981 Greco SE-600W "Super Sound"
This is the same model previously owned by Mr. Ito of Guitar Lab.
It's a guitar set up with incredible skill and passion, to the point where it's no exaggeration to call it "divine."
Regarding the guitar's wood specifications, it features a familiar sen wood body, common in older Japanese-made guitars.
While the distinctive wood grain isn't visible due to the solid color finish, the white finish and the aged look of the pickguard create a very rugged atmosphere.
The neck is a classic combination of maple and rosewood fingerboard, thin and very comfortable to hold.
The catalog specifications state a lacquer finish. However, the paint is thin in areas where it's peeling.
Now, let me explain about Guitar Lab and its representative, Mr. Ito.
Mr. Sumi Ito, representative of "Guitar Lab," a workshop in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, is known as a legend in the repairman world and is famous as the originator of the "low action setting" for bass guitars and other instruments.
He also runs the brand "Dougu," which showcases the pinnacle of his craftsmanship, producing original guitars boasting exceptional precision.
Since becoming independent in 1985, Mr. Ito has remained active for over 40 years, nurturing numerous talented successors.
He is more than just a "repairman"; he is also a researcher who pursues the essence of musical instruments, and an inventor who continuously solves problems.
During our conversation, I was particularly impressed by his discussion of repair techniques and hardware ideas, rather than the work itself.
His career is remarkable; in high school, he won second prize in a competition with a guitar he built himself.
Afterward, he worked for Fujigen (Fuji Stringed Instrument Manufacturing), a leading Japanese guitar manufacturer.
He spent several years working under Makoto Sugimoto of Sugi Guitars, honing his skills in guitar research and development, inspection, and repair.
In both repair and instrument making, we strive to go beyond simply fixing things and instead focus on eliminating stress for the player.
In particular, the meticulous finishing of areas directly related to playability, such as fret deburring and nut adjustment, is highly regarded by many musicians, both professional and amateur.
While Dougu guitars vary widely in materials and parts from instrument to instrument, they all consistently exhibit an extremely refined and high-density setup.
It's not simply a matter of string height or nut finish; a true "total setup" is applied, ensuring high interplayability and a flawless finish across all parts.
The feeling is that "the string height is low, yet the tension isn't slack," resulting in extremely comfortable playability and a vibrant sound, both maintained at a high quality.
Experience the weight of 40 years of craftsmanship—a quality that cannot be achieved overnight—in person at our store.
【Product Condition】
Although there are scratches, dents, and paint peeling in various places due to its age of approximately 45 years, it remains in relatively good condition considering its age.
The body and pickguard show significant discoloration, and there are numerous pick scratches.
The frets appear to have been leveled, and although worn, they have nice, evenly spaced teeth.
The truss rod has been confirmed to be working.
