Trobriand Island ebony walking sticks from Papua New Guinea are hand-carved pieces made from dense black ebony, a material that’s now quite rare, making these pieces rather valuable. Many are decorated with detailed carvings of local plants, animals, or figures, and sometimes feature inlays like mother-of-pearl.

They were often used by chiefs or in ceremonial contexts, rather than as everyday walking sticks. Some, known as kaluweria, were also associated with protection, giving them both practical and symbolic importance.
