Pre-Columbian Vicús Painted Pottery Rattle Figure

Vicus Culture, Peru, circa 200 BCE–600 CE

A striking painted pottery rattle figure from the Vicús culture, depicting a stylized anthropomorphic figure with exaggerated facial features, including large circular eyes and a prominent nose. The figure wears ear ornaments and a headdress element, with hands resting along the sides of the cylindrical body.

The surface retains areas of original red and cream painted decoration, arranged in horizontal bands. The hollow form contains small pellets, producing sound when shaken, indicating its use as a ceremonial or ritual rattle.

Mounted on a custom stand for display. Surface shows age-related wear and earthen deposits consistent with burial.
