Own a fascinating piece of early Spanish history with this 1837 Spain 8 Maravedis copper coin, issued during the reign of Queen Isabella II (1833–1868). This coin dates to an important period in Spain’s transition toward constitutional monarchy and represents everyday currency from the pre-decimal real system.

The obverse features a right-facing portrait of the young Queen Isabella II, with the inscription:
“ISABEL 2ª POR LA G. DE DIOS Y LA CONST. 1837” (Isabella II, by the grace of God and the Constitution). The denomination “8” appears to the left of the portrait, indicating its value in maravedís.

The reverse displays a detailed quartered cross design, featuring castles and lions symbolizing the historic kingdoms of Castile and León. At the center is an oval shield with three fleurs-de-lis, representing the Bourbon dynasty. Surrounding the design is the inscription:
“REYNA DE LAS ESPAÑAS” (Queen of the Spains).

At the top of the reverse, the aqueduct mint mark identifies this coin as being struck at the historic Segovia Mint, one of Spain’s most famous mints.
