The history of clothing is a chronicle of the self-identification of the people, where every stitch and ornament reflects the spirit of the Ukrainian era. The presented English-language edition considers Ukrainian clothing as one of the most informative material sources of knowledge of the history of the people. In her fundamental work, Zinaida Vasina convincingly proves: Ukrainian civilization has over 10,000 years of continuous history - from the Late Paleolithic, through the Trypillian culture, the Bronze Age, the era of the Cimmerians, Scythians and Sarmatians, Kievan Rus, to the Hetmanate era, when Ukrainian national clothing was formed. The form, ornamentation and sacred symbolism of clothing appear as a coded memory of the people, preserved in embroidery, fabric, jewelry and traditional costume. It is this continuity of tradition that makes Ukrainian culture unique in the European civilizational context. The history of Ukrainian clothing is a chronicle of the nation's self-identification, where every stitch and ornament reflects the spirit of its era.
