This is a Japanese natural whetstone from the Shohonyama mine in Kyoto. It has a medium hardness (3.5 on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being hardest) and is suitable for achieving a Kasumi finish. It is recommended for blade surface finishing of Japanese knives and other knives. The stone features a distinctive Nashiji pattern.
