Product Details
Brand: Glass Lab - Koto Brand Certified - Series Item: Rock Glass (Shochu/Whiskey) Size: Diameter 7.8 x Height 8 cm Comes with a brand box. This is a size larger than a traditional sake cup identified as an Old Glass or Rock Glass. The "Hokusai Glass" skillfully expresses the intricate artwork of Katsushika Hokusai. The Hokusai Glass is made using a technique called "double-layered glass" in which a thin blue glass as thin as cellophane is layered over a clear glass. A film with Hokusai's ukiyo-e art is applied to this layered glass and fine sand is blown onto it at high pressure. This results in only the areas without the film being etched away revealing Hokusai's ukiyo-e art beautifully on the glass. Furthermore the reverse side is polished to be transparent allowing Hokusai's art to be clearly visible through the transparent glass. It is a masterpiece that combines tradition and craftsmanship perfect for gifts to overseas customers or those deserving of appreciation. "Sand Cut" is a new glass expression method that combines the Edo glass techniques of "Hira-kiriko" and "Sandblast." "Hira-kiriko" is a type of Edo glass specified as a traditional Japanese craft used to skillfully cut glass mouths and flatly shape the base of dishes. In contrast to the Edo kiriko technique Sandblast involves projecting sand using compressed air from a compressor enabling extremely fine engravings as small as 0.15mm. By combining both techniques Glass Lab Co. Ltd. continues to strive for new possibilities in Edo kiriko. Since the side of this glass is polished using one of the Edo kiriko techniques it is indeed a genuine Edo kiriko glass. One of the 36 views of Mount Fuji series drawn by the famous ukiyo-e artist of Edo Katsushika Hokusai is “Kanagawa Great Wave Off the Coast.” This particular piece depicts the view of Mount Fuji from Honmoku off the coast of modern-day Yokohama. It is a dynamic composition of waves that Hokusai has been drawing for many years capturing a mix of calm and motion on the screen. This internationally renowned piece is held in famous art museums and galleries worldwide still influencing contemporary artists to this day. Note: Due to the manufacturing process there may be slight variations in shape and minor air bubbles present in the product. Please understand this in advance. ※Regarding the color of the double-layered glass: Each item is handmade by craftsmen so there may be slight differences in thickness and color.
