Scarce signed association copy of Timothy Turtle by Al Graham, pictures by Tony Palazzo, published by The Viking Press. Originally published in 1946, Timothy Turtle was a 1947 Caldecott Honor book. This copy is warmly inscribed by author Al Graham in August 1969 to Helen Vechter, widely known as “Miss Helen” from Canadian/Ottawa children’s television. Included is a related handwritten letter signed by Margaret A. Graham, Al Graham’s wife, addressed to Dr. Vechter and referencing Helen Vechter’s work with children through television. The letter also mentions Dr. Harrison L. McLaughlin, noted orthopedic surgeon, creating an interesting chain of association between Graham, the Vechter family, children’s television, and the McLaughlin medical circle.
Blue cloth hardcover with red turtle design on front board. Wear to covers and corners, some rubbing/soiling, and general handling wear. A compelling signed Caldecott Honor association copy with scarce Al Graham signature and related provenance material.
