A large antique Tibetan mandala thangka depicting the five Dhyani Buddhas centered on Vairocana, the cosmic Buddha of universal truth. Early-mid 20th c.
A vibrant and symbolically rich Tibetan Buddhist thangka depicting a sacred mandala of the Five Dhyani Buddhas, centred on Vairocana, the cosmic Buddha of universal truth.
The composition presents a classic meditative structure. A central enlightened figure in teaching gesture, encircled by directional Buddhas representing the transformation of the human mind into wisdom. Above, a dynamic wrathful Dakini dances within flames, embodying tantric energy and the transmutation of desire into enlightenment.
Executed in mineral-style pigments on canvas and mounted in a traditional brocade frame, this piece reflects the enduring artistic traditions of Himalayan Buddhist workshops, most likely from Nepal. It dates to mid-late 20th century, c.1970-1990. The painting may indeed be earlier but mounted later, a common Tibetan practice.
Unlike narrative or purely decorative thangkas, this work functions as a visual meditation aid, a symbolic map of the enlightened universe used in tantric practice.
Condition consistent with age, with visible wear enhancing its authentic devotional character.
A compelling and highly decorative example of Buddhist sacred art, ideal for collectors, meditation spaces, or interior display. Please look carefully at the images as they form part of the description.
