4. Condition Report: Excellent Vintage Condition. No chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs were found across the set. The gold gilt on the rims is remarkably well-preserved (approx. 95%+ retention). Minor factory kiln debris/dust may be present on the unglazed foot-rims, which is a standard characteristic of 1920s Japanese porcelain production.

Why are these called "Double" egg cups? In the 1920s, table etiquette was highly specific. The smaller cup end was used for a standard soft-boiled egg served in the shell. However, the larger cup (when flipped) was designed to hold a "coddled" or poached egg that had already been removed from its shell, or to allow the diner to chop their egg and mix it with butter and salt inside the cup!
