The 1973 Bathurst was the first of the 1,000 kilometre enduros, the race length extended some 200 kilometres over the old 500 miler, and the year's new regulations had produced faster touring cars. For the 1973 ATCC, the Ford works team raced modified versions of Moffat’s 1972 season XY GTHO, Allan taking out his first Australian Touring Car Championship title. Along with that, Moffat paired with Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan driving the new XA GT Falcon Coupe Hardtop to secured his third Bathurst win with barely two minutes in hand before exceeding his driving time limit. It was indeed a great race to cap off a remarkable year's touring car racing for Allan Moffat.
