Gorgeous Antique Newhall Boumier Ware Art Deco Lusterware Footed Bowl 1936

Boumier Ware was produced by the New Hall Pottery Co. (1899–1956) based at the New Hall works, not the original 18th-century New Hall Porcelain.  The New Hall Pottery Co. Ltd. was founded in 1899 and was widely known as a manufacturer of mass-market, "cheap" toilet sets and jugs, before expanding into dinner and hotel ware. Boumier Ware was a high-quality earthenware range produced by the New Hall Pottery Company in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, starting in 1936. Designed by Lucien Boullemier, formerly of Mintons and C.T. Maling, joined New Hall in 1936 to elevate their product line from utilitarian goods. Known for luxurious lustre glazes and unique designs, sometimes featuring animated, Gothic-inspired friezes. The ‘waved’ lustre effect was achieved using short, circular brushstrokes. Each piece typically carries the underglaze mark, ‘New Hall, Hanley, England, Boumier Ware’ that includes Boullemier’s signature. The company ceased trading in 1956.

This is a stunning, large footed lustre ware bowl. It features a transfer design that has been hand coloured. The body is predominantly pink with the waved effect using short circular brushstrokes that give a really dynamic quality. The centre of the interior base has a framed floral basket cameo, the internal and external rim both feature a broad floral frieze with stylised borders, the top edge features a gilt design that is repeated on the foot of the bowl. There are heavy gilt accents to the friezes and borders. The bowls interior and exterior surfaces feature a gorgeous iridescent lustre finish throughout.

In excellent vintage condition, it has no chips or cracks, only fine crazing.

The footed bowl measures approx. 23.5cm in diameter at the rim, 11.5cm in height and has a base diameter of 13.5cm.
