The full title is THE WORLD AROUND US: THE ILLUSTRATED STORY OF THE CIVIL WAR. This Classics Illustrated spin-off series featured huge volumes—this one is 68 pages!—about historical events. It features a decidedly Western and Christian (and in this case, white) view of history, but is interesting nonetheless. This issue features not just your favorite Confederate stars like Lincoln, John Brown, and US Grant, and, ahem, Robert E. Lee, and continues the story to connect it with WWII and Nazi-ism, in case you wanted to make the line distinct between the U.S. South and Nazi trials at Nuremberg in a one page text article. Don't worry, they also point out that the Ku Klux Klan arrived in the Reconstruction/Jim Crow area. The s---heads in sheets make a one panel appearance. This issue features art by some notable comics luminaries, including, Gray Morrow, Sam Glanzman, Angelo Torres, and Normal Nodel, who also painted the cover. And maybe, who knows, L.B. Cole, who was the art director. Gilberton, 1960.

CONDITION NOTES: VG-. Reader copy. Flat and bright colors on the cover. Browning cover stock and good interior paper. Lots of small creases and dings and spine split at bottom. Dust shadows on the back cover and small tears. It will hold up nice to multiple readings. (Grading is based on a careful examination of the flaws.)
