Recently taken in part exchange, this 1974 Jaguar XJ series 2 4.2 presents an excellent and affordable entry point into classic car ownership. Finished in an attractive blue over a beige interior, the car remains largely original and offers a charming, usable project with plenty of character and opportunity. Mechanically, the car has seen some recent attention. The fuel system has been flushed, including replacement of one of the fuel tanks, and a new carburettor has been fitted—although it would benefit from further tuning to achieve a smooth idle. A new battery and full set of spark plugs have also been installed. The engine and automatic gearbox both perform well, with the car pulling through the gears smoothly as expected. Structurally, the vehicle appears very solid underneath, with no obvious signs of corrosion or rot—always a key consideration on these. The exterior presents nicely overall, with bright paintwork and particularly good chrome, free from notable pitting or deterioration. As expected at this level, there are some small areas of bubbling to the bodywork. The vinyl coach roof is in very good condition and suggests the car has been dry stored. The car sits on its original wheels in good order, fitted with recent Continental tyres all round. Inside, the cabin is presentable, though showing signs of age. The leather seats are worn, with the driver’s seat stitching notably frayed. 52k miles While a large portion of the historical paperwork has unfortunately been misplaced, a folder of remaining receipts for recent works and some MOT certificates accompany the car.
