Details
Description: A nice very fine or much better lustrous copper-nickel coin from Egypt. This is the one qirsh coin from the reign of Muhammad V the Ottoman Sultan, who ruled over the Muslim world at the time. The obverse of the coin shows the sultan's tughra, a rose to the right and above the tughra and the denomination below it all surrounded by a floral wreath. The reverse says Duribah Fi Misr (struck in Fustat on the outskirts of Cairo the current capital of Egypt) with the number 6 for the 6th year of Muhammad V's reign over the letter "Beh" on top and Muhammad V accession year of 1327 AH below it, all surrounded by stars along the rim. It is KM 306 measuring approximately 23.2 mm in diameter and weighing about 5.3 grams. The coin has a plain edge. Please carefully review scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Date: 1913AD - 1327 AH year 6 of Mohammad V's reign. 1913 is the last year this type of coin was ever issued in Egypt.
Mint: Egypt, actually these were struck in Birmingham England as evidenced by the "H" in the bottom of the reverse.
Size and weight: This is a one Qirsh and is ~23.2 mm in diameter and weighs ~5.3 grams.
References: It is KM #306.
Condition: I would grade this coin as a good very fine or much better with all the details being well preserved. The coin has wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. It has minor stains, scratches and minor bag marks in the fields. In addition, it has raised parallel lines at an angel in the field above the tughra, which can be seen in the photos. These we believe are an artifact of the minting process and these lines were most likely damage in the die used to mint the coin. Be that as it may, the coin has great eye appeal. It is much better than the scan shows and would make a great addition to your collection of Egyptian coins. Please see photos for additional condition information.
