Rare Vintage 1955 Disneyland Game – "A World in Itself" by Rand McNally & Walt Disney Productions
Up for sale is a wonderful piece of early Disneyland history: the Disneyland Game – A World in Itself, a unique tin lithograph globe board game released around 1955–1956, right after the park's grand opening. This promotional gem was designed to capture the magic of the newly opened Disneyland, with players spinning to travel around the colorful 3D globe map of the park's themed lands!
What's Included:
- Tin litho globe (approx. 10" tall including base): Excellent colorful artwork featuring Fantasyland Castle, Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, and more. Scattered Disney characters like Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Dumbo, Mad Hatter, Alice elements, Jungle Cruise boats, rockets, Davy Crockett, etc. Spinner arrow on top intact. Vibrant colors with minimal wear—some light scattered marks/scratches typical for age, no major dents or fading.
- Original cardboard base with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc., running around the edge.
- Character pawns/markers: Several original die-cut cardboard pieces (including Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck—some with green bases; photos show at least 3–4 visible).
- Chance cards: Stack of original yellowed envelopes/cards with fun actions (e.g., "MONSTRO is ahead... Go back 3 spaces," "DISNEYLAND BONUS – You get an EXTRA turn! Lucky YOU!").
- Rules booklet: Folded pamphlet with full instructions for multiplayer and solo play (e.g., golf-style fewest spins, pretend games).
- Original box: Cardboard with classic Mickey thumbs-up artwork, title banner, and Disney/Rand McNally credits. Well-worn with tears, missing top flaps, edge rubs, and age toning—but displays nicely from the sides and shows great vintage character graphics.
- Packaging remnants (brown paper bag, etc.).
This is a scarce early Disneyland collectible—far more unique than standard board games, with the innovative globe format letting players "tour" the park in 3D. Featured in Disney history books, Pawn Stars episodes (similar examples discussed), and collector sites. Perfect for Disneyana fans, vintage toy collectors, or as a cool display piece!
