To all the die hard fans of the W123 and its beloved siblings, come to the front of the class - Proff says as follows:

- Internal worm gear resplined to get rid of excess play and in some cases completely replaced with a similar one; if there is no room to respline.

- Sector gear is usually not worn out but if it is in some cases, it is also resplined to mesh wiith the worm correctly.

- Both are re fitted into the housing and the play is adjusted, to not more than 1 inch after the steering is fitted.

- Ball bearings are replaced with new ones, these are usually 17 in number.

- Internal seals are all replaced with new ones. Made on order in bulk: the top seal, pitman arm seal and the drain plug seal are all new.

- Housing is sanded first, primed later and finally painted with black Hammerite paint with a slight lacquer coat to give it a shine it deserves.

- There is no play when you move the pitman arm and the worm gear rotates instantly and vice versa.

- No noises at all in the moving parts inside unlike most used ones which give off noise due to fractured worm gear; when you move the steering.

I have been remanufactring and refurbishing steering boxes for various cars since a long time however these Merc boxes are specially redone by a 70 year old man who has now plenty of grey hair hence his experience is reflected in the quality of the rebuild.

I source these from around the world as these are hard to find at a good price. The ones sold as used on eBay are good for nothing inspite of the high price, the sellers ask for !

Occasionally, I also do get the quick ratio boxes too but they are slightly higher in costs due to high salvage costs.

I can also confirm the sales of two boxes to a member of Rude Benz group in London and another two to a person in Romania and one in Turkey to name a few while some others are based in Africa & parts of Eastern Europe.
