This is a 1981 Tokai JB45 in Metallic Blue with the "Sparkle Logo"!

Based on the catalogs, the 1981 catalog doesn't list metallic blue,

but the 1982 catalog does.

The body is made of sen wood; the 1981 catalog lists both sen and alder,

while the 1982 catalog only lists alder. Therefore, I believe this particular guitar was made sometime between the end of 1981 and the beginning of 1982.

The overall appearance is very good and quite clean!

However, the neck has a slight forward bow, and the truss rod is almost at its limit.

It can be turned a little, and it works if you turn it, but there's no room for adjustment.

Also, the neck pocket is deep, and even with the bridge lowered all the way, the string height was high, so I made a thick shim to raise it.

Currently, there's a slight buzz when playing beyond the 12th fret.

And, incredibly, the screw hole for the pickguard on the lower left side of the 4th string side of the front pickup is missing.

Tokai completely forgot to drill the hole during manufacturing, so not only is the screw missing, but the hole itself is also missing.

The neck has a slim C-shape, and the frets are vintage type with about 60% remaining.

According to the catalog, it was designed with a 1964 Fender in mind, and features a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard.
