This is a very rare early rule book pamphlet for mahjong. This is the 5th edition of the booklet, printed in March of 1923.

The title is

Standard Rules and Instructions for the Chinese Game of Ma Chang (Sparrow)

This is a 17-page booklet. The cover is a slightly thicker paper. The binding is a stapled binding. In the center of the book there are some pages with photographs as illustrations, which is really interesting for the time. These pages have a different texture than the rest of the pages and are much smoother. These also have some more of the foxing/ yellow age spotting than the other pages.

This book has been used. There are some bends and folds, primarily along the edges of the pages and cover. The pages have some toning from age, and some foxing (yellow age spots). The edges of the cover also have some fading/toning. There are some penciled notes that someone made in the book. The staples that are the binding have some rust.  Please see pictures for details. The pages are intact and the book is in good condition considering its age.
