You may have noticed two very similar part numbers: MCX4121A-ACAT and MCX4121A-ACUT. Both are 25GbE dual-port SFP28 network adapters based on the Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx controller. However, there is one critical difference that affects compatibility and use cases.

Hardware swapping: Yes, both will work under the same operating system using standard drivers. The physical chip and core functions are identical.
Functional interchangeability: No. The ACAT cannot provide UEFI network boot (PXE) if your system requires it. The ACUT can work in legacy BIOS mode, but you would be paying for a feature you don‘t use.
The core networking performance – dual-port 25GbE, RDMA RoCE, SR-IOV, hardware offloads – is exactly the same on both models. Both are suitable for:
