Antique Unusual Lathe Turned
Carved Wood Single Piece Butter Print
Heart Design with Unidentified Symbols

For Your Antique Butter Print Collection-Heart1

Details

  • Description: A nice antique and rather unusual turned and hand carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of a single piece of wood, has a chip carved heart design surrounded by unidentified symbols such as the winged eye above it and the detail at the bottom tip of the heart. This carving is obviously a reproduction of the carving shown on the butter print in Figure V-76 in Paul Kindig's book "Butter Prints and Molds" published in 1986 by Schiffer Publishing ltd of West Chester, PA. The print has what I would characterize as a chip carved pie crimp border and a primitive carved heart with cross-hatch carved accent within it. The print has a lath turned knob handle. This is an unusual antique and very well carved butter print worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Unknown but most likely early to mid 20th century.

  • Origin: Southeastern Pennsylvania.

  • Size: Measures ~4" in diameter at the design part, is ~3" high to the top of the handle. The print weighs ~3.3 ounces.

  • Maker: Unknown.

  • Marks: Unmarked.

  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice antique and unusual handmade butter print with a mysterious design. A nice antique butter print, which would make a great addition to your collection.

  • Condition: The piece is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has two very small age cracks within the handle. Other than that, the print has no apparent wear suggesting it saw very little use, if any. It has no losses or damage that we can see. The piece has a few scratches and minor dings throughout. A very nice and unusual butter print to add to your collection. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
