Lempira Coffee (Coffea sp.) is coffea arabica variety known as Lempira is a high yielding Catimor based hybrid that has played a crucial role in the sustainability of Central American coffee production. This plant produces medium sized cherries that yield uniform seeds with a dense structure and consistent quality. Upon roasting, the beans release a pleasant and inviting aroma with notes of toasted nuts and sweet cocoa. The flavor profile is well balanced and approachable, offering a medium body with a bright, crisp acidity and a clean finish. A unique characteristic of this variety is its exceptional resistance to coffee leaf rust, a trait inherited from its Hibrido de Timor lineage. However, this cultivar was specifically developed and released by the Honduran Coffee Institute to provide farmers with a reliable and productive alternative during the environmental crisis. The tree itself has a compact, dwarf growth habit with short internodes, which allows for high-density planting and easier harvesting. Its foliage is vibrant and hardy, providing a strong foundation for the heavy clusters of cherries that develop along the branches. The internal beans are typically oval-shaped and respond exceptionally well to various processing methods, from washed to natural.
