DESCRIPTION
This substantial wall plaque features a carved profile of Pharaoh Akhenaten, rendered in the distinctive artistic style of the Amarna period. The relief is formed in an alabaster-style stone material with a rough, natural edge and shallow carving, giving it the look of an ancient sculptor’s model or architectural fragment.
The elongated head, slanted eye, heavy lips, and drooping chin are signature traits of Akhenaten’s portrait style. The softly textured surface and irregular perimeter create an authentic, timeworn aesthetic that displays beautifully in a study, library, office, or historically themed interior.
The original sculptor’s model this design is based on was excavated at Tell el-Amarna during the late 19th-century excavations of Sir William Flinders Petrie (1891–1892). The original later passed through prominent collections before entering the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Museum reproductions of this subject were produced for educational display and collectors.
