The 1971 Hardie-Ferodo 500 saw Peter Brock drive solo in the Holden LC Torana GTR XU-1, completing 129 laps to finish 8th outright at Mount Panorama. Against the dominant Ford Falcon GT-HOs, Brock delivered a solid and reliable performance that showcased the strength of the lightweight XU-1 package. The result formed part of Brock’s early Bathurst career, coming just one year before his first Bathurst victory in 1972, marking the beginning of his rise to legend status.
