🇷🇺 Soviet ShM-D1 gas mask dated around 1940 to 1941 lot 1 size 1. The ShM-D1 was a modification of the ShM-38D gas mask, which was itself a variation of the Soviet children's ShM-1D gas mask, a civilian model of the ShM-1 gas mask for the Russian Military. The ShM-D1 differs from the ShM-38D in that the D1 features a fully integrated rubber hose with an 0-8 valve assembly, whereas the ShM-38D features a stockinette covered fully integrated rubber hose with an 0-8 valve assembly. This mask is supposedly a single example of about eight known examples to exist in the collecting community or in the world, though this number has not been fully confirmed. This mask can come in at least 5 sizes, this being the smallest I know of. The ShM-1D, ShM-38D, and ShM-D1 all feature a nape strap which seems to be a very prominent feature on Soviet Civilian gas masks, this strap connecting to a very primitive ring system molded into the edge of the mask. This mask was sourced from a collector in Latvia, as these masks seem to find themselves in Latvia quite a bit, which lead to me speculating that this mask could possibly be a Baltic modification of the ShM-38D when under Russian occupation, though this is likely incorrect. In around mid-2024, a few images from what appears to be a manual surfaced showcasing donning and accessories of the ShM-D1 mask, proving the existence of this mask as a separate model and not a modification of an existing mask as some would speculate. The carrier of this mask would be a simple cloth carrier with a single button system, much like the military carriers. The canister issued to this mask was a cylindrical D-3 Canister, or possibly the wider D-4 Canister, which is normally seen issued to the ShM-1D mask.
