First edition, 1883, published by Remington & Co 134 New Bond Street, hardcover, 133 pages, blue cloth boards, with gilt decoration in the aesthetic manner, minor discolouration to boards and pages, previous owner inscription. Good overall condition.

Sydney Sybella Lever (1849-1887) was born in 1849 in Lucca, Italy, the youngest daughter of Irish novelist Charles Lever (1806–1872). In 1870 in Trieste, she marries Edgar Crafton Smith, an English businessman living in Austria. The couple have no children. In 1881, Lever and her husband (now retired) are living in London where she publishes a collection of poems, Fireflies (1883), under her maiden name.

Lever dies in 1887 in London.

A collection of ballads and verse by Sidney Sybella Lever (1849-1887), with a dedication to her father Charles Lever (1806 -1872) also containing a preface by her acknowledging the composers that have set some of her work to music.
