In good overall condition, scratch to the mooring post in
the foreground, two minor fakes to the sky and minor craquelure above the
signature. The frame fabric inset is lightly foxed. Light restoration required.

Painter, especially of
landscape, in the Impressionistic Modern British style, mural artist and
teacher. Studied at Beckenham Art School with Thomas Freeth, 1946–50, then at
Royal College of Art, 1950–3, where his teachers included Ruskin Spear and John
Minton. Exhibitions included RA, Young Contemporaries, Beaux Arts Gallery,
Leicester Galleries and one-man shows which included Redfern Gallery in 1950s. Retrospective
of George Manchester and Basil Nubel’s work was held at Bloxham Galleries in
2002.
