Description
ANTIQUE ENGLISH COTTAGE DOORSTOP
Charming antique hand painted door stop measuring about 5-1/4" long, 4" deep and 4-1/2" tall. Featuring a cozy little English cottage complete with a molded, thatched roof, dormer windows, central chimney, leaded windows and curved front door - sides are accented with greenery and house is painted the sweetest yellow. Filled with cement to weight, the cottage appears to be made of some type of pottery - pattern is embossed and pressed with depth and detail - finished on all four sides.
Condition is lovely with no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs, discoloration or damage - there is a tiny rub on one corner, which is how I could see that it is made from some type of pottery or similar sturdy material. The underside has no cover to protect the floor from scratching by the exposed cement - it was made this way. This has been holding open a door to my Grandmother's Florida room for years - I think it dates to around the 1920s - haven't a clue as to maker, but my best guess would be it is English in origin.
Just a heavy, crispy detailed, homey and inviting square English cottage doorstop - fun addition to any collection or display! Please note -- it is toning a hint bright in my photos.
If questions, please contact me - thanks!
