Vtg 1973 Lois Long Canada Geese Trapunto Fiber Art Framed 3D Textile Ocracoke NC
A Unique Piece of 1970s Coastal History
Offered by Whispering Relics, this stunning oversized wall hanging is a masterclass in 1970s textile "Trapunto" (raised relief) embroidery.
Featuring a serene trio of Canada Geese, this piece was sourced from a private estate in Ocracoke, North Carolina, a village deeply connected to the heritage of migratory waterfowl.
The Artistry & Technique:
This appears to be a beautiful hand-embellished project from the early 1970s.
The artist utilized a high-quality linen print as their canvas—specifically a wildlife design by the renowned mid-century textile artist Lois Long.
The crafter then skillfully applied the Trapunto technique, padding the bodies and necks of the geese from behind to create a dramatic 3D effect. The intricate top-stitching adds incredible texture to the feathers, making the birds appear to "lift" off the natural oatmeal-colored linen background.
