The 1982 James Hardie 1000 saw Dick Johnson and co-driver John French return to Mount Panorama in their privately entered DJR Ford XD Falcon, following Johnson’s famous victory the year prior. Against strong factory-backed competition, the pair delivered a tough and determined drive to finish 4th on the road after completing 160 laps, a few laps down on the leaders. However, their result was stripped post-race due to illegal engine components discovered in scrutineering, a controversial ruling at the time that overshadowed an otherwise impressive performance and remains a notable chapter in Johnson’s Bathurst career.

The original early 80’s Dick Johnson Racing Biante releases are well known for inconsistent factory manufacturing quality, such as paint issues and doors and lids not sitting flush. In the interest of full transparency, the following factory-related characteristics are noted:

• A faint to medium paint rash in areas on bonnet and doors.

• Display box has general ageing and ware, plastic window partially unstuck.

• All doors and lids appear to sit flush with chassis. Hinges on doors and lids are known to be stiff on this model range. Buyers are advised to exercise care when opening any panels, as excessive force may result in hinge damage, particularly on first movement.
