Artwork – The piece is a colour print after Jill Walker’s pen‑and‑wash painting titled “A Street in St John’s, Antigua.” It depicts a woman and two children walking with dogs and a rooster down a narrow street in St John’s, the capital of Antigua. The pastel‑coloured houses with wooden clapboards, corrugated roofs and shuttered windows reflect the island’s colonial architecture. The figures are rendered in Walker’s characteristic loose pen outlines filled with translucent washes of watercolour, giving the scene a lively, sun‑soaked quality. The print is signed “Jill Walker” in the lower left margin and inscribed with the title “A Street in St John’s, Antigua” at the lower right. It appears to be a high‑quality reproduction of Walker’s original watercolour on heavy art paper and is ready for framing.
Artist – Jill Walker (née Crockford) was an English‑born artist who moved to Barbados in the early 1950s. After professional training at London’s Royal Academy School of Drawing and Painting, she worked in London theatre design before settling permanently in Barbados, where her husband Jimmy Walker established an architectural practice. From the 1970s through the 1990s she produced numerous pen‑and‑wash paintings of Caribbean architecture and street scenes . Walker’s “pen and wash” technique allowed her to capture the fine detail of traditional houses and the vibrant life of the West Indies . In 1975 the Walkers founded the Best of Barbados gift shops, selling Jill’s art and designs . She received the Barbados Centennial Honour in 2000 and the Barbados Jubilee Honour in 2016 . Walker’s paintings are widely collected, and her signed prints have become sought‑after reminders of Caribbean heritage. PLEASE NOTE, this is a copy(a print) and is framed nicely. Not an original.
