Finely and Ornately Carved Victorian Anglo-Indian Ebony Puzzle Box with Secret Storage Compartments

Anglo-Indian from the Victorian Era of the Mid 19th Century (circa 1850).

Outwardly appearing to be just another “Book” on a bookshelf, the “Book” secretly opens to reveal three separate storage compartment perhaps once used to hide a gentleman’s gold coins or a lady’s jewelry. It sill opens and closes as smoothly as the day that it was made. 

What a clever and functional example of "Raj" carving!

Indian carved during the "Raj" period of the English colonization of India.  The English often refer to carved ebony objects such as this one as a "Raj" carving as they were produced in India during the Raj Period during the English colonization of India circa 1850.

It is finely carved with a leaf and scroll patter.  You simply cannot find such finely carved objects today.

The Puzzle Box with Secret Storage Compartments is 8.75 Inches Tall, just over 5.75 Inches Wide and just over 1 Inches Thick.

Substantial in both size and weight.
