Vintage Tall Cased-Glass Vase (Scandinavian Style, ca. 1970s–90s)
A striking column of colour, this tall turquoise vase embodies the quiet confidence of late-modern Scandinavian glassmaking. The form is almost architectural: a slim cylindrical tower rising from a softly swollen base, all executed in richly saturated cased glass (white interior, intense aquamarine exterior).
This technique — layering opaque or semi-opaque colour over a contrasting interior — became a signature of northern European glass studios from the 1960s onwards, seen in works from Holmegaard, Iittala, and various smaller Swedish and Finnish hotshops. While this piece is unsigned, the craftsmanship is unmistakably from that lineage: • the crisp, perfectly even rim • the clear glass foot transitioning seamlessly into colour • the slight optical density at the base, typical of hand-blown work. At 36 cmtall, it has real presence — a sculptural object even before you add a single stem. It’s one of those vases that doesn’t try to be decorative; it simply is decorative by virtue of proportion, colour, and calm authority.
A statement piece for lovers of modern glass, minimalist colour fields, and the Nordic school of “quiet drama.”
