The Grumman F9F Panther was an early carrier-based jet fighter designed and produced by the American aircraft manufacturer Grumman. It was the first jet-powered fighter aircraft to see air-to-air combat with the United States Navy as well as being Grumman’s first jet fighter. 1,385 of these fighters were produced, and the last one was retired by the U.S. Navy in 1958, and with the Argentine Navy in 1969.
This kit features decals for two aircraft:
- F9F-3 Bureau Number 123071 "First Kill" as flown by LtJg Leonard H. Plog with VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" over Korea in July 1950 when he made the first kill of a Yak-9P. This made him the first U.S. Navy jet pilot to down an enemy aircraft, and this action occurred on July 3, 1950.
- F9F-3 Bureau Number 122581 with VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" in 1950 during the Korean War.
