This charming vintage German Easter egg made of papier maché dates from the 1960s. The pretty green and white floral paper that lines the interior is marked "Made in German Democratic Republic," denoting it was an import to the U.S. from East Germany. It has wonderful period graphics! The image is the same on the top and the bottom of the egg, which is comprised of two pieces that pull apart so a treat or a trinket can be placed inside.
The images themselves are in perfect condition. They are printed on glossy paper in saturated colors. The picture depicts the Easter Bunny with a basketful of Easter eggs on his back, a yellow chick, and a little girl bunny in a polka dot skirt. In the background are a large red and white mushroom with a little bluebird perched on top, wildflowers, green grass and a vivid blue sky.
The two halves of the egg are wrapped with a decorative white scalloped band made of glossy paper. There is a slight bit of staining on the white bands, likely from the aging glue it was adhered with. The flowered paper that lines the interior is in beautiful condition. There are no tears or paper loss to the piece. The egg measures approximately 3 1/2" tall by 2" wide.
