A gorgeous cold-and drought-resistant perennial flower that is easy to grow. It grows 3-6 feet tall and blooms in the 2nd year after planting.
Start seeds outdoors at the end of the spring or in the fall for flowering next summer or start seedlings indoors 4 weeks before the last frost. For better germination, soak the seeds in warm water for 10-12 hours before planting. Use peat pots as the roots do not tolerate transplanting well. Plant 2-3 seeds in each pot 1/8-inch deep and keep the temperature at 68°F. Water regularly. When the shoots appear, thin to 8-12 inches apart. Harden off before transplanting outdoors. Plant outdoors 10-15 inches apart into well-drained soil in a sunny area, protected from the wind.
