Why do owls need my support? Owls typically seek natural cavities to build their nests, but they have been facing increasing levels of habitat loss due to deforestation and land commercialization. A great way to support local populations is to put up a well-built owl house (aka nestbox) or a few of them!
Why install an owl house? Because that would support several owl species in your area while you get to enjoy a yard with fewer mosquitos! And watching a family of owlets grow up in your backyard and learn how to fly can be quite a rewarding and fun experience.
How many will I need? Mounting multiple owl houses 100 feet apart will allow different families or species to nest in them peacefully.
Would any owl box do? Not quite! You need a high-quality nestbox that is well-built to sustain the weather, well ventilated, has features to thwart predators, and that is designed to attract owls and give them the shelter they need.
WHITEHORSE is proud to present its new collection of owl houses for outdoors. They are built to satisfy owls, and you!

Not quite! The internal cavity size is one of the main factors that will determine the attractiveness of a nestbox to owls. Any owl house that is less than 16" in height is very unlikely to be an attractive option for owls to raise their babies. And owl houses with doors that swing upwards (instead of downwards with a bottom hinge) can be dangerous as the baby owlets could easily fall out!
3” by 4” oval hole keeps invasive species and predators out
Large vent holes keep the house cool. And screw caps keep the holes dry.
Did you know? A wet nest is one of the most common reasons that a nestbox fails. So to prevent windswept rain from entering the box, we constructed the joints in dado-style to make them wind- and rain-proof.
