Rycote's Mono Modular Windshield series WS 4 Kit is suitable for microphones from 161mm up to 210mm in length and 19-25mm diameter.
The Modular Windshield Kit WS 4 with XLR-3F and Connbox CB1 from Rycote provides you with the accessories needed to prevent or isolate your mic from up to 50dB of wind and handling noise. The WS 4 kit features a modular suspension with pistol grip, a windshield, and a windjammer. Also featured are a boom pole adapter, a CB1 Connbox, and an XLR holder.
The microphone fits on the modular suspension and attaches to the Connbox. The windshield fits on the suspension and is enclosed around the mic. The fuzzy windjammer then fits over the windshield. This completely modular system can be configured to allow almost any microphone to be shock-mounted. Two Duo-Lyre suspension webs, a brush, and a Hex head key are included.
The Windshield is the core (body) of Rycote's Mono Modular Windshield series and an array of interchangeable parts and accessories are available. Optional end-caps and extensions provide added length for accommodating larger microphones and mounts. Every windshield and part model is specified with a numerical designation, signifying different lengths and sizes. All windshield models include the necessary body and extension parts to accommodate the desired length.
The shockmount uses non-elastic microphone Lyre suspension clips. The shape of the clips allows for a specific compliance to the microphone, and prevents handling noise and vibrations from reaching the capsule. The Lyre design gives improved isolation for cylindrical axial microphones. The Lyre suspension uses no rubber or elastic components to isolate the microphone from unwanted shock and handling noise.
Hytrel Plastic Construction
A material called Hytrel is used on the end rings and shield. The material aids in creating the "dead" space necessary for quiet operation.
Interlocking Ends
Modular locking end rings provide quick and easy replacement of dented ends and modular extensions.
Connbox
The Connbox is a unique Rycote development specifically designed to isolate and greatly reduce handling and cable-borne noise to the microphone. It acts as a transition connection that effectively inhibits cable vibration, preventing transmission to the microphone. The lengths of soft cable are set to work perfectly with the microphone fitted in the windshield without touching the internal surface of the basket, while the soft cable greatly reduces the transmission of cable-borne noise and rumble.
The Connbox is made of the highest quality components, using Gold pin Neutrik X-series XLR connectors, and an ultra-soft Mogami star-quad cable.
Rycote Windjammer 4
The Rycote Windjammer 4 is a synthetic fur cover that offers approximately 12 dB of wind-noise reduction over a standard windshield. It fits securely using locking zip fasteners and touch fasteners. The materials used are transparent to audio and will remain so if regularly groomed with the brush provided. Each Windjammer fits one specific size of Rycote Windshield. This windjammer fits the WS4 Windshield.
Lower frequencies are reduced an additional 10 dB offering frequency reductions between 30 to 35 dB from 75 Hz and below.
Rycote XLR Holder
The Rycote XLR Holder fits between any 3/8" male threaded boom pole or mic stand and any 3/8" female microphone shock-mount or windshield system. The holder securely grips all XLR connectors, at a set distance from the side of the pole to prevent the XLR plug from becoming unclipped or making noise.
Rycote Boom Adapter
The Rycote Boom Adapter will enable the Modular Suspension to be mounted onto boom poles and fish poles. The Boom Adapter features a brass 3/8" female thread for complete integration with the studs located on boom poles. This model boom adapter includes a ratchet style lever handle.
Rycote Pistol Grip Handle
The Rycote Pistol Grip with Ratchet Lever is designed for use with the Modular Suspension System. The pistol grip handle features a comfortable design and ratchet style release lever. A 3/8" female brass thread will adapt the pistol grip to boom poles and a slot for an XLR connector is molded in the side.
